My newest piece measures 36x36 and continues in the new vein that my art is going. Even with the differences from New Directions 1 & 2, I am keeping some similarities to keep these all in the family. I am almost finished now with #5 and will post that shortly. I have also completed some new Functional Art pieces - round side tables that were given the high color, abstract art, high gloss treatment. 

New Direction 1 & 2, or How I Had a Revelation About My Art.

It's kind of funny how my new art style came about, which is proving to be hugely popular on Social Media. I was outside painting the other day and I saw on the paper drop cloth underneath the painting that I was working on, a pattern in several colors that immediately struck me as the future of my art. I guess that is what's called a revelation. It's much more organic than the type of art that I have been working on for several years. I actually painted over, at that moment, the painting that I was working on, and started a new one, the one at top here. I am looking forward to starting another painting in this style today.

Table Love - The Love Affair Between Acrylic Art and Tables as an Art Form

It's a love story unlike any other, cultivated over years first as an Interior Designer and the love of furniture, especially tables, not really sure why just tables, and then in the past 7 years or so, as an artist. The marriage is expanding to create a new take on an old old art form, #painted #furniture. In this new iteration, #abstract #art becomes the horizontal surfaces of the table to make a piece of #Functional #Art. Stay tuned for more examples down the line as they are added to Gill's inventory. These actually are for sale. And actually he has sold some to neighbors and friends already.

The Surreal Effect - Artist Gill Miller Digital Art Print

One part digital cutouts from my spray acrylic paintings and one part cropped photos from New York's Central Park  and this beautiful, surreal park in Rome, Italy, blend in a new digital composition and viola! You have my newest digital art print piece, titled Confiscated Heroes. Interpretation is open to the viewer.

Gill Miller - Digital Collage Art - This Is How I Do It.

This is week 1 of the development of my new digital collage. As I mentioned in last week's Newsletter, I make my collages from parts of my paintings, and now I am also using my photography to

create new compositions.

TOP LEFT This photo was taken in New York's Central Park in the Fall of 2013. I discretely took a series of shots of people walking by as I sat on a park bench.

This project is a 4 week long project where I will post the progress of the Print, and then will offer it up for purchase once it is completed.

Digital Art...or the Art of Recycling - California Surfin'

ABOVE: I'm not really sure how I started making digital collages from my canvas paintings. The idea just came to me and I'm not sure what I was influenced by. Like many artists, influences are constantly coming into view and stored in the right brain lobe, and pinpointing the origins may not always be easy.

Anyway, I think this is an example of the Right Brain feeding the Left Brain because it involved going into a computer program, Photoshop in this case, and creating something not only artistically, but technically. Specifically what I did here was to digitally cut out parts of my different paintings and create a new composition. This one is called California Surfin'.

BELOW: The X's mark digital "pieces" from six different paintings that I cut out and assembled the composition with. It's kind of like putting together a puzzle, which is what painting is to me anyway. So in that respect the thought process is similar.

BOTTOM: The arrow marks the gold and white area that I cut out to make what looks like the side of a head, with the ear and the "eye" shapes.

COMING UP: Over the next few weeks I will be working on a new composition in Photoshop, and will be publishing each week the progress until it is completed. I hope you enjoy it. Be safe and have a great New Year!
